It allows deduplication of data, and it permits updating folders (IPNS and IPRS), and has even a RSS-like feature (PubSub).
A very simple, yet working today, solution would be to host a GitLab instance on a site, that works as a centralized repository for changes, and that updates a folder containing all data and metadata, shared and updated by IPFS. T
he folder would have a IPNS hash, so that one could visit the most recent version of the project even on a browser. IPNS nowadays is pretty barebone, but it's expected to become git-like in the future (IPRS), so that if someone wants to fork the project, he can anytime, but a lot of data and metadata will still be seeded by both forks, minimizing disruption.
In the future the whole repository thing can be decentralized even further, but this solution works now for your project.

Looking forward to the v19 release!
